Law would require Florida hospitals to disclose what they will charge

Newly passed state legislation that is expected to get Gov. Charlie Crist’s signature will require hospitals to beef up disclosure to consumers about what they can expect to pay for treatment, especially to the uninsured. The intent is to promote comparison shopping for hospital care and dovetails into the “transparency” movement in recent years. That’s where the public can go to various Web sites to find out how individual hospitals stack up for mortality rates, infection rates, average length of stay, and other information.
