Collier using $1.75 million federal grant for affordable housing initiatives

A one-year action plan in Collier County sets aside $1.75 million in federal money for affordable housing projects. The plan includes $900,000 for a new Habitat for Humanity community called Regal Acres in East Naples that will have 184 villas, plus money for Esperanza Place, a project planned by the Empowerment Alliance of Southwest Florida that will offer 60 single-family homes to low-income families in Immokalee. The federal money would pay for roads and other needed public services, such as water and sewer hookups.
